emerge difficulties

Hey, I'm trying to emerge gnome as well as links, and have similar problems in each.

checking host system type... Invalid configuration 'x86-pc-linux-gnu' : machine 'x-86-pc' not recognized

And then

make: ./libtool: Command not found
make: *** [jcapimin.lo] Error 127

Any ideas?

check /etc/make.conf and see if there are any typos. Specifically CHOST.
