I was not sure where to post this, So please move if not in the right place. I am trying to move to gentoo as my main desktop. I have a sb live I compiled support as a module. I followed the Desktop faq on the web site and I can not get sound to work. Alsa is what I am wanting to user and it does not and usering just the kernel sound did not work. I got a opertation not permitted when I ran /usr/sbin/MAKEDEV audio. Now I am at a complete loss and do not know what to do. thanks for the help. |

Just a guess, but have you loaded the modules for you SB Live sound card. On my gentoo system, when I load the appropriate modules, typically the device nodes are created. I am not up on my devfs as much as I should be but this works for me in most situations where I can not seem to make a device work.
If you compiled your kernel with ALSA support, there should be a soundblaster live module, so do a modprobe <sblive-module>
Check out this post for a soundblaster live

It should help you out more than I could. _________________ svan9420 |

Audio seems to be a tricky one. I think there are quite a few topics covering the SB Live.
If you haven't already, you might try a search and see what you get. A good chance
your issue has been resolved already. |
