Installing stage 1 problems

Hello,

I am new to gentoo, but want to try a stage 1 install. The bootstrap script worked, and I am now trying to install the basic system with : "emerge system"
Here is where the problems start: Some servers emerge tries for ftp download time out,.
Ok, this is not a real problem, but it's annoying, becouse it takes about 10mins per time out.
Now the big problem:
When downloading readline-05-004 I get a 440, file not found :-(

witch figures, becouse the file dous not exist on these servers.
i wanted to try to confige the serverswhere to seach by myself, but I can't find where these servers are stored. It are not the servers in /etc/make.conf

Dous anybody have a solution, and why is there a package in gentoo 2004-2 that is not yet available on the ftp servers :-(

Mirrorselect usually fucks up, try putting some of these in /etc/make.conf.

Where shoud I put it? behind GENTOO_MIRRIRS="......" ?

Just add a new line in /etc/make.conf like: GENTOO_MIRRORS="ftp://gentoo.itdnet.net/gentoo/"

Choose a fast mirror.

tnx, now it works.
But what I don't understand, I added one to the servers I allready put there, but emerge didn't check these servers at first... (at least, not for as far as I know) It checkt servers that I never heard of.... Where dous it get this "other" server list from?

Some ebuilds specify specific servers to try accessing files from first.
