I'd like some advice regardng my dad's HP3822 printer.

He's been using it for a year or more to print envelopes using OOo's mail merge feature (he's the secretary of a few local community groups). But lately it's started printing junk at some arbitary point through the print run, generally if there's a jam or when it runs out of envelpes and needs re-loading.

The trouble is - it's getting progressively worse. After a jam I can cope with- after a paper reload I can't. To make atters worse, my dad is a non-techy and I'm not here most of the time to sort it out afterwards. (Generally I need to 1) cancel the print job; 2) power off the printer; 3) power off the printer; 4) unplug the printer; 5) turn everything back on 6) regengerate the mail shot; and 7) restart the run from the last good envelope.

I've tried everything I can think of. I've also searched al the keywords I can think of. I would deply appreciate some help here.

problem solved - in a bare minimum sort of way - in as much as my dad got fed up with his print runs messing up and had me reinstall XP, which repartitioned the disc and wiped the linux install.

I don't think this was a linux issue, since we seem to have one occurence since switching back. Might be an open office problem I suppose since that's what we used.

I'd still be interested in any ideas, since you never know when the problem might recurr. Meanwhile, thank you for your time.
