|

after i had (still have) problem with usa, some1 said it's better to work with udev, ok, so i merged udev, and removed the devfs from the kernel, after that i wasn't able to run xserver, don't know why, i tried with nvidia, w/o nvidia, nothing works :<
when i tried with nvidia, i saw the nvidia logo, and right after that black screan, and it doesn't respone to anything i tried, CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE didn't work as well, tried to switch consoles and nothing, then i tried w/o nvidia suport, same thing just w/o nvidia logo.
what can couse it? |

make sure your X config uses /dev/input/mice for the mouse (as opposed to /dev/mouse or /dev/psaux or anything like that) _________________ http://dev.gentoo.org/~dsd |

Well, I had the same problems today - luckily I found this thread. Shouldn't this be included in the udev guide? _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll

Hiho,
It is included in the "Migrating to Kernel 2.6 Guide".

Hello Attila,
I was using 2.6 kernels before I switched to gentoo (but I was using devfs - everything worked OK). Today I decided to break my system and install udev (by following the udev guide). I didn't read the kernel-2.6 migration guide as I was running 2.6 already. After a reboot my xorg would not start. I've found this thread quickly and changed the input device to /dev/input/mice. Everything works now with udev.
Including the warning about X11's input device and udev in udev guide is IMO necessary as xorg's configurator script defaults mouse to /dev/mouse. As 2005.0 would use udev as the default, there could be more ppl with the same problem.
BTW, I am installing ivman right now to break my system completely _________________ 60s: sex, drugs, rock'n'roll
