I don't know much about SNMP, but I've been reading a few HOWTOs, googled, read manuals etc but I simply don't get what I'm doing wrong.
All I want is a read-only community (or what it's called) that I can use to gather data to graph with MRTG/RRDtool.
However, with all the configs I've tried (from snmpconf, HOWTOs and my own), all I get when I try to
snmpwalk -v 1 -c public localhost is "Timeout" or "No response".
I've tried with my IP address too and stuff.
I'm probably doing something really wrong so please help me out.
BTW, there's no point in me posting configs, since as I said, I've tried countless.
Edit: OK. I absolutely don't get it, but it works now.
I restarted (/etc/init.d ...) my (self-made) firewall and now it works. Without changing anything in it since my last reboot.
Very weird, but hey, why complain when it works? _________________ [Server etc. | C2D 2.2 @ 3.0 GHz / 4 GB RAM / 3x1 TB + 1x2 TB SATA disks + 1.5 TB ext. | Gentoo]
