Ho notato che utilizzando unicode_start capita che utilizzando le lettere accentate sia possibile cancellare oltre il normale limite per un numero di posizioni pari al numero di lettere accentate digiate... cercherò di spiegarmi meglio con un esempio 
Se scrivo qualcosa tipo:
| Code: | | mrfree@thot mrfree $ qwerty |
cancellando con il tasto backspace posso arrivare fino ad ottenere
| Code: | | mrfree@thot mrfree $ |
Se invece scrivo (6 lettere accentate)
| Code: | | mrfree@thot mrfree $ ìùàìùà |
Posso cancellare fino ad ottenere
Quindi 6 posizione oltre il normale limite 
Ovviamente dopo un unicode_stop tutto torna normale
Qualcun'altro che usa unicode_start potrebbe provare?

effettivamente e' un po' fastidioso, a volte mi capita di cancellare e riscrivere bene un comando errato ma incurante della correzione mi da sempre errore.
vabbe', riscrivo tutto il comando...

Il bug report ha dato i suoi frutti...
Utilizzando bash3 e readline5 tutto funzia alla perfezione
Questo howto spiega tutto e anche di più
