Recently I decided to try out GDM and a graphical login manager. GDM works fine using the default themes, however whenever I try to install a new theme it always has an error.
I'm using Gnome 2.8 btw and this is the error I always get
Can't open file /usr/share/gdm/themes/themename/themename.xml (where themename is the name of the actual theme) .. The files exist.. I even tried to add world rwx permissions.. no go.
Any ideas?
Edit: I got GDM themes working correctly again.. it just took downgrading to Gnome 2.6

Can you edit the file as root? Usually, afair, init scripts like gdm do not like being changed by non-root users. Maybe you should try to install the themes when being root? _________________ Gnome:

Have you tried this only with one theme or did the error appear also with other themes? |

Well I did install them as root, and it happens on multiple themes.. however the default themes installed with Gentoo work fine... Only new themes that I download from gnome-look.org (or any site for that matter) do not work. Is there a breakage between 2.6 and 2.8 of Gnome with GDM? |
