To be honest, I don't see why a linux port cannot be made of this game given the required time from the community. Seeing as an early state the sourcecode was leaked / stolen / whatever any Reverse Engineering needed could be partially based on the leaked code (This would of course be illegal, and in no way do I condone it). But I doubt any linux client will be made avaliable for this great game (and in someways, I hope one doesn't arrive as the linux community would probably be accused of basing it on leaked code, regardless of whether it was or not).
Where's this reply going? - No idea =)
I don't really like playing games in Cedega / wine etc, and I probably wont bother with HL2 if no client is made avaliable, I've been looking forward to this game since I became hooked on the origional but as I see it, it's their loss not mine =) - One less customer. |

The reason is because there is this myth that as soon as source code is available, hundreds of thousands of developers will rush to the project, organize themselves, and produce a masterpiece. That rarely happens.
For example, look at two filesharing networks Waste, and DC (I'm refering to DC++). Both are completely opensource, but there have been no efforts on either project from the community to develop a linux port. And they are reasonably popular progs as well. Yes, there are a few linux DC clients, but let's not kid ourselves, they are crap.
Even if programmers were plentiful, nobody would waste their long hours porting a project that would be so easily stopped by Valve. It's just not going to happen. _________________ "Vidar, Odin's mighty son, he will come to slay the wolf

Steam wont make a default client of any of there games because they don't want to spend the money for it. Also one of the steam programmers worked with Microsoft back in the day so he's anti-linux.... , but!! DaveHope - Nice avatar _________________ http://www.xboxshack.com - OMG xbox.
