never mind, adding parport under character devices fixed it

i don't have a /dev/lp0
I have compiled parport support into the kernel and mount says that devfs is mounted. here are the contents of my /etc/devfs.conf:

i found an old post dealing with this so now i'm trying to build in character device->paralell printer support
