Hello,
Does anyone know if DVD playback is broken in mplayer?
I was trying to get DVD playback with mplayer but I only can see squares (noise.) My solution was to emerge ogle, but I'd like to use mplayer instead.
BTW: mplayer 0.90_pre8-r1
Thanks in advance,

ITs working fine for me, and im using pre10
I tend to have more luck with mplayer than Gmplayer
btw make sure DVD use variable is in your make.conf
btw another good DVD player is Xine - worth playing with. |

Yup! I forgot to tell I HAVE dvd in USE But still no luck with mplayer (pre6, pre8 and pre10)
And about xine. I've just emerged it. It has more options but sound is choppy. I'll stick with ogle for now.
Thanks for answer!!

What command are you using to run mplayer? What output plugin(s) are you using? |

Output plugins? I guess you're refering to '-vo xv' That's what I'm using.
The command line is: mplayer -dvd 1 and this is the output
Code: | nbensa@venkman nbensa $ mplayer -dvd 1

As you can see, there are lots of a52 errors as well as libmpeg2
Thanks for your help,

hmmm do you have alsa installed ??
if so then try
mplayer -ao alsa9 -vo xv -dvd 1
the -vo xv set video output via xv ( X11/Xv ) which bypasses the standard X outout and writes stright to the vid card
the -ao alsa9 sets audio output via the ALSA audio drivers ( if setup )
or try these other audio options
oss OSS/ioctl audio output
arts aRts audio output ( this is for KDE )
null Null audio output
alsa9 ALSA-0.9.x audio output
sdl SDLlib audio output
mpegpes Mpeg-PES audio output
pcm RAW PCM/WAVE file writer audio output
plugin Plugin audio output
BTW I think re-emerging libmepeg2 wouldn't hurt either

Thanks, but I did another thing.
I edited the ebuild, and --disable-mpdvdkit. This way, mplayer is forced to use the system libdvdcss and libdvdread instead of the ones shipped with mplayer.
Now I can see my DVD with mplayer!!!! |
