I was having some major problems with a user account on my computer. I copied the files that I wanted to save then deleted the home folder as well as the entries in passwd and shadow. I recreated the user with useradd and I cannot log into Gnome. It gives all sorts of pop-up errors. I can however log in via the terminal. The home directory is setup fine and everything appears to be kosher. I added a few other users to make sure it was all working and it was. Why can't I use the same username as before? I have the same username on multiple systems so it makes ssh, etc. much easier. _________________ "If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy." -- James Madison |

Take a look at files in /tmp with the username, and subdirs in the homedir related to Gnome, such as .gnome, .gnome2, .gnome2_private. Stuff in /tmp can be deleted, and the subdirs can be moved to see if they cause the problem(s). _________________ Quis separabit? Quo animo? |
