|
|
Maybe the wrong place to ask, but was wondering if anyone have some advice for which serial ata raid controller that works well under linux and has the speed for it. Don't want to use software raid.
Have looked at 3ware, but those are a bit expensive.
Is promise something that could be ok?
Know that highpoint is a "bad" choice.
Setting up a web/mail/database server with 4 36 gig 10000 rpm wd raptor, in raid 10. Want it to be fast. _________________ What! I'm using a computer? |

Highpoint IS a bad choice, for the rest just a have a look in the kernel docs:
Via/SiS/Silicon Image/Nvidia/Intel and Promise are OK ... |

Have a look at this site: http://www.linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html
You don't have much choice for inexpensive hardware RAID cards. I'd go with a 3ware 8006-2LP myself (and I plan to eventually). They can be had for ~$140 last time I checked. Hopefully you have a 64-bit PCI or PCI-X slot on your motherboard since most hardware SATA RAID cards need them.
EDIT: By software RAID, did you mean the md driver? |

By software i meant md driver.
And since I'm going to use raid 10 i need a 4 port raid controller.
And those i've found costs ~$500. _________________ What! I'm using a computer? |
