I made a typo in creating my grub.lst (named it grub.1st) HOw do I undo this change?
I also need to reconfigure my kernel to add network card support. Do I need to reinstall from scratch? |

nope, you can boot from the cd, mount your partions like during first installation and repair things/repeat failed steps (like compiling the kernel);
it doesn't state 'gentoo rescue <something>" for nothing in the first boot screen |

In case you are not joking about Grub then just find the file and I think you just type at the # ren /path/to/file or if you are already in the directory just ren filename here (obviously don't type the #). I may be wrong on the "ren" command though for renaming, hehehe pretty new tho this stuff. I am typing this from within Gentoo/KDE3.0 so don't get discouraged it just takes patience.
Now to get my sound working |

mv source target
mv grub.1st menu.lst
info grub states menu.lst is the mandatory name of the grub config ( and it has to reside in /boot or /boot/grub IIRC)
and the "#" is the root-prompt

"-alsa oss" for kdemultimedia in your use settings (unless that changed in the last 6 hours ), as the timidity-part of kmid(i) (can't remember which one) will fail on alsa0.9.
search the forums on this, you'll find plenty
