I was using this Howto to set up my vnc server: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=72893&highlight=vnc. Everything worked well till today after I did a world update and wrestled with some new kernel that didn't work with my soundcard (and I eventually rolled back). So when everything settled, my vnc services stopped working!
The weird part is that I can get a login screen like before, but once I typed in the password and click login, it freezes there instead of showing the splash screen, and then after a while the vnc client window closes. I found this error log in the user folder on the server machine, .xession-HOSTNAME:1, which looks like following:

I pretty much tried everything I did before with that HOWTO, and still no luck. Anyone can tell me what could have possibly gone wrong? Thanks.
I wonder why it's trying to connect to display 0.0, shouldn't it be 1? I did comment out the DisplayManager.requestPort :0 line in /etc/X11/xdm/xdm-config though... |
