Hello,
I used genkernel yesterday to build my new 2.6.9-kernel. When that is ready and I have added what it said | Code: | | vga=0x317 splash=verbose |
to grub.conf (on the kernel line), I rebooted. It looked good until all the normal boot messages where supposed to float by, then it just put out some weird gibberish. I suspected everything went well beneath it all and waited until I suspected the login prompt would have appeared. Then I typed in (without any echo of course) my login info and then . Then everything started as usual!
I have also tried without the above commands and still the same problem.
The last thing I see flashing by is some thing with

I had this problem, it was down to using the new framebuffer code in the kernel.
Try using the one that doesn't end in -ng |

OK, now I know what you mean and thank you very much, it worked!!
If anyone else is reading and wonder the same as I did, the trick was to, after starting disable vesafb-tng under Device Drivers->Graphics Support->VESA VGA Graphics Support->VESA Driver Type(vesafb) and choose vesafb instead. |

i've just compiled the 2.6.9-r3 kernel for the 6th time, and i can't get the video out of 80x25 text mode.
fwiw, i have tried both vesafb and vesafb-tng in the kernel with appropriate references on the grub kernel line, but i'm still stuck in 80x25 mode. ideas? |
