I recently bought a T42, and I'm trying to install Gentoo on it, but when i leave it for a while the screen will go blank, and after that it will what i think suspend (even though the moon light is still off), and it is unable to get out of this state. All i can do is reboot, and restart the installation process. Has anybody had this problem? and know what to do about it?

thanks

Jule

Yup... I also have a T42 and I had the same problem. Usually this happens when the CPU is idle (not compiling) during the installation. I thought it was due to the "smp" kernel I was using for bootstrapping with gcc 3.4 so I let it go: Had to hard reset and not let the CPU "idle" during the install process.

Have you tried pressing the "Function" + "F2" keys?

I managed to find time where I could do the entire install process in one sitting, so i could make sure i was there, and i installed apmd as quickly as i could. I did not try the Fn+F2 keys. I've been using smp as well
