Hiya,

Dunno whether this one is hardware or software... maybe someone has seen it before.

I am attempting to netboot my Indy into gentoo - (have done netbooting before with x86, sparc etc). The machine takes up the file, executes, then instructs me to press enter. I press enter, nothing happens. The keyboard does not respond. I can't even get the caps lock light to come on.

There's clearly nothing particularly wrong with the keyboard or the controller as I obviously just 'bootp():'d the machine with it!

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Reuben

You bootp'd from the prom. Once the linux kernel loads, AFAIK, there's no more support for the k/b or mouse. You'll have to use a serial console.

in the interim, i tried a debian image which crashed, and an older gentoo image (2004.02.10-08).

This one gives me keyboard control back!

however, every time i press tab it blanks all the text on the screen except the cursor! it comes back again when i type but it gave me a shock the first time.

just in case it comes in userful for anyone in the future: after using the older tftp image to get past the no keyboard problem, I couldn't get it to untar a portage tree as it claimed it wasn't in the correct format (tried with four different files). A quick
Code:
chroot /gentoo
did the trick.

Okay, a number of people have had this problem -- it seems it's a bug in the latest netboot image that causes the keyboard to not function.

We're aware of the problem, and it has been reported as bug #84358. We will post any news about the bug there.

Many thanks for the fix - works beautifully!
