I made live cd based on Gentoo and linux-live scripts. Homepage: http://kotek.org/jintoo
* root filesystem is write enabled
* full gentoo base with portage, emerge works!
* good hardware autodetection
* Xorg with KDE and others wm.
This CD contains: mc ,links, vim, emerge, python, perl,kde, fluxbox, icewm, xfce, fvwm, firefox, opera, wine, IE, mplayer, kaffeine, xine, amarok, xmms, k3b, krusader, koffice, gimp, gwenview, kdevelop, ghost view, frozen bubble, bastard tetris atc.. and many utils on Ultimate boot cd. Size is 650 MB
It also contains Gentoo base and portage. Filesystem is r/w, you can do emerge in cd All software is compiled with O2 optimalizations for i686 and with prelink for faster startup, but prelink don't work and will be removed.
Kernel is normal 2.4.27 from kernel.org with lowlatency patch and ovlfs. I use genkernel and hotplug for autodetection, for video card and monitor I use defaults values from Xorg, works great on LCD, untested on CRT. Mouse wheel don't work.
CD image is updated weekly. Now is in beta stage, I realy need testers. Thanks.

Sounds nice. Too bad i can't give it a try today, as my few old computers are currently emerging kde3.3, so it takes time.
One question though, when emerging something, where does it all go? I mean like usually Live-versions uses ram for writing stuff, so how does your´s do it?
Anyway, excellent work _________________ Just because I have nothing to say is no reason why you shouldn't listen. |

Emerge works fine, filesystem is read only, but changes are stored in ram, so if you are doing big updates you need much ram or swap (cd use swap partition on disk). After restart changes are lost.
With 512 MB RAM without swap emerge mc is without problems, but kdebase fail on low "disk" space. |
