Slow clock in Virtual PC

I'm running several Gentoo installs in Virtual PC 2004 on Windows Server 2003 for a project. Everything works great except for the clock. From what I have been able to find, the clock is emulated with software and can be slow depending on the load on the host machine. You can install the "Virtual PC Additions" to keep this from happening but suprise suprise, they are Windows only.

I have ntp updating every hour but this is still a major problem, and I can't find much information about this online anywhere. Heres what i have been able to find:

I submitted a request to bugs.gentoo.org for vsntp (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=70660) but it seems like there may be some other way to resolve this. A kernel config option perhaps? Has anyone else run Gentoo in Virtual PC and had this problem or not had it?

IMHO I think this has more to do with how the Host and Virtual PC interact.
I have run several VirtualPC's including Exchange 2000, which i could never remotely administer due to clock differences.

I do not believe there will be a fix as it is more an issue in Virtual PC than Gentoo

It definitely has a lot more to do with Host<->VPC interaction, but its still a problem to try and resolve with Linux

vsntp looks like it might be a good solution and I'm going to try it out once I get a chance.

How about VMware? Anyone know if it has the same problem?

Have you seen any updates on this? I have a gentoo machine running inside Microsoft Virtual Server 2005 and it loses time quickly.

I will look into this vsntp, but I'm just curious if you ever figured anything out.

Never figured anything out... have ntp update quite frequently and just ignore the weird cron related errors that come up.

I am running VS 2005 myself, with 40 different instances. I have Red Hat, Suse, and G2, but none seem to exhibit the problems above. However, I have another question that may relate. Since Gentoo is compiled on a smaller test server, before I move it to the Enterprise Server, it has to lock in the Proc values.

Do you think the time may be an issue with the Proc compile? Will it jack up other machines, like laptops with Mobile M procs???
