I need some help here.
I have been trying to install Gentoo for about three months via CD. CD you ask, well I am a country hillbillie and have dial-up. But funny thing is I work for a IT department.
I am just having so much trouble following the installation guides found here at gentoo.org and trying to install this OS. Funny thing is I am using a Gentoo machine AT THIS EXACT MOMENT!
LOL, well anyways I am pretty good with RedHat etc but this Gentoo thing has got me stumped. If you guys know anything about how to install (AKA the slacker way ) or a better step by step install let me know.
But you will be glad to know that I am fixing to jump on the Unix ban wagon because I HATE WINDOZE. Just a little help would be appreciated.
I am on AOL, so if you need to contact me let me know. If it is better to expalin . hehe Thanks guys for all the help by the way! _________________ Just a starter at

Perhaps you should take a look at the Gentoo Handbook. _________________ ~~ Peter: Programmer, Mathematician, STEM & Free Software Advocate, Enlightened Agent, Transhumanist, Fedora contributor

Which part of the installation guide are you having trouble with, or where are you getting stuck? |

It will help to know what hardware you were trying to put it on as well. _________________ Brian

Your best bet is to read through the entire installation guide and identify your hardware before you begin. Its also a good idea to plan your partitions in advance. When you have a specific problem with the Install Guide, search to see if its been answered -- most likely it has, and then post to Installing Gentoo to get help. _________________ Quis separabit? This I love your suggestions but I have tried all that. To answer your question ( Lamaistres) It is emerging the kernel from the CD itself.
The hardware I am putting it on is a P.O.S. Gateway computer with Celeron. Not sure of the processor size or anything but it is still in good shape. I am running RedHat 9 on it right now. I just do not know the entire specs of the machine.
I have started from Stage 3 if that helps and went through it all step by step. Just I SUCK at this. Heheh. _________________ Just a starter at

when you are chroot`d from the live cd emerge pciutils and run lspci to see what you have, also check you have the kernel stuff mentioned in the manual and the file systems you need _________________ Giay tay nam | Giay nam cao cap | Giay luoi |

Sorry it takes me some time to get back to you guys.
I have tried that as well, just giving me all kinds of goodies. But have setup a system at my home to install it on a second machine and still have network connectivity so that I may be able to ask you questions and get you updated.
Thanks for you help again guys/gals! _________________ Just a starter at
