this is the output for emerge -pv kdebase:
Code:
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

[ebuild  NS   ] kde-base/kdebase-3.3.1  -arts +cups -debug +java -ldap +opengl +pam -samba +ssl -xinerama 19,439 kB

Total size of downloads: 61,100 kB

Why doesn't emerge see my current kdebase install?

Code:
lucho-gentoo root # qpkg -I | egrep kdebase
kde-base/kdebase *

What is NS? Will kde be updated? Or will something strange happen?

Thanks in advance!!! :wink:

It does see your old kde, but for some reason wants to install it along side the old one. If you look under
Code:
man emerge
you will find:
Code:
N = new, (not yet installed)
S = new, Slot installation (side-by-side versions)

To get around that I would just do
Code:
emerge -uD kdebase
if you want it to update your old one. This will also update all dependencies, which is usually a good thing.

The above command wouldn't have a significantly different effect. It would still install the new KDE without removing the older one. To get rid of the old version after installing the new one, try emerge -C ~kde{libs,base,...}-3.2.0 (where 3.2.0 is the version of your current KDE installation)

TrueDFX is right:
Code:
lucho-gentoo root # emerge -uD kdebase
Calculating dependencies ...done!
>>> emerge (1 of 66) sys-devel/gnuconfig-20040214 to /

Exiting on signal 2
lucho-gentoo root # emerge -uDp kdebase

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

So I guess I'll have to emerge -C first....I'll certainly lose some config, but oh well...
