... on an nVidia nForce 2 based motherboard??
Would I need to do anything special, like installing
nVidia's nForce Linux drivers?
Thanks. |

The nvidia-kernel driver 1.0-3123 support Quote: | nForce 220D/420/420D Integrated GPU | so if you want 3d support you might wanna install this package and the nvidia-glx package (you need to change your X11 file accordenly). I think there's a document how to do this c.q. it's somewhere in the list,

I guess my main question is how to proceed from a Stage 1
tarball. Will Gentoo even boot on an nforce2 motherboard
so that I can start emerging/installing stuff? |

I don't have an nForce mother board, but the install process will be the same as any other system with an nvidia card - if you want opengl, you will need to emerge nvidia-kernle and nvidia-glx. |

I'm guessing, Try, as this is a brand spanking new chipset ( or at least one of the newer ).
But my guess is that it _will_ be supported because gentoo supports almost every bit of hardware out there from cd. ( Anyone know why gentoo-install keeps trying to install a Compaq Scsiraid module when I have a Promise UATA133 pcicard in my computer? )
bottomline, try to install!

Umm, I think some of the you are confusing an nVidia video
card with an nVidia nForce motherboard chipset. I know how
to handle an nVidia video card, but the nForce2 mobo chipset controls
ethernet, IDE hard disk/CD-ROM support, etc..
If you OS doesn't implicitly know how to control those devices
through the chipset the install won't get very far... |

I have no idea but you might want to check this out:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=465&highlight=nforce
I tend to post questions then search so I thought I save you the ignominy of having the mods tell you to do so
and when no one answers I just go with a hunch |
