I've noticed other people have posted problems with their sound settings getting reset when they log back into KDE.

The problem is that when KDE is starting, it resets the settings for the alsa mixer so that every thing has the volume set to zero, and many of the channels will be muted. Very annoying to say the least, and as of yet I haven't seen a single fix for this problem.

I believe this has only started since KDE version 3.2.3.
I think I've narrowed the problem down on my own machine to the point where KDE restores the session after restarting. Anyone have any ideas?

No ideas here, but I've been having the same problem for months. Every time I restart X, I have to reset all of my sound settings via alsamixer again.

I had this problem as well, and finally tracked it down to Kmix.

Either open up kmix and set your sound levels as desired in there, or else open up kmix and go to Settings -> Configure kmix and uncheck the 'Restore volumes at login' option.

I just set my volumes up initially and closed kmix, and it's been fine since. Hope this helps!

if you don't like kmix, and want to use alsamixer, what i do is turned off arts sound server.

hum.... I eventually found that option to unckeck 'Restore volumes at login"
took a bit of digging for that stupid thing. It wasn't in the KMix program itself, I ahd to find it from some other control area within KDE. :-\

I'll try this for a while, I hope that's enough to stop this from happeneing.

I haven't ridden myself of artsd yet because I keep reading of people having trouble, maybe after some of that gets worked out better. :)
