I am getting this exact same error actually:
Code:
(EE) Failed to load module "i810" (once-only module, -1073747640)

I am only able to use 640x480 resolution because of this

use "lsmod" to determine which modules you have loaded. If there isn't one for the i810 loaded, then you can try modprobing it, but I get the feeling you're going to have to compile it into your kernel.

Post back if you need help.

lsmod lists nothing at all, i dont think i compiled everything right into the kernel instead. Should i use modules?

Well, you don't _have_ to. I prefer modules over a monolithic kernel where I can avoid it. Anyway, see if there's a /usr/src/linux/.config file or a /usr/src/<kernel-version>/.config file. grep it for "i810" and see if there is a <y> by it. If not, or if the name of the graphics chipset isn't in there, you're going to have to configure your kernel.

"linux/.config" contains "CONFIG_FB_I810=y" and same with "linux-2.6.9-gentoo-r6/.config"

also i dont know if this is helpfull but there is this in both of those configs
"CONFIG_DRM=y" and "# CONFIG_DRM_I810 is not set"
