When I try 'startx,' I get a black screen with an 'X' cursor in the middle that I am unable to move. When I grep /var/log/Xorg.0.log for errors and warnings, I get only the following warnings:
Code: |
(WW) The directory "/usr/share/fonts/CID/" does not exist.
(WW) Open APM failed (/dev/apm_bios) (No such file or directory)
(WW) (1400x1050,Monitor0) mode clock 122MHz exceeds DDC maximum 110MHz

(WW) NVIDIA(0): EDID-specified maximum 1024)

The tail of the log, where I'm assuming things go wrong, looks like the following (no warnings):
Code: |
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Keyboard0" (type: KEYBOARD)
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Mouse0" (type: MOUSE)
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "NVIDIA Event Handler" (type: Other)
(--) Mouse0: PnP-detected protocol: "ExplorerPS/2"
(II) Mouse0: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded
|
And that's all I know. Hitting Ctrl+Alt+Backspace kills X, and I'm put back to my handy-dandy command line. With 'startxfce4,' on the other hand, I get the nice message:
Code: |
/usr/bin/startxfce: X server already running on display :0.0
xsetroot: unable to open display ':0.0'
|
All of which seems a bit ironic when Xorg so insistantly refuses to do anything useful. As a side note, I recently emerged the nvidia-glx driver, and created Xorg.conf using xorg -config. I'd really appreciate any suggestions, as I have roughly no idea where to go from here. |
