I'm trying to create my own bootdisk from the gentoo cdrom. My cdrom on my linuxbox doesn't boot from the livecd so I'm using VMWare to create the bootdisk.
I've created a boot disk with these steps.
# mke2fs /dev/fd0
# mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
# mkdir -p /mnt/floppy/boot/grub
# cp /usr/share/grub/i386-pc/stage1 /mnt/floppy/boot/grub/
# cp /usr/share/grub/i386-pc/stage2 /mnt/floppy/boot/grub/
# grub
grub> root (fd0)
grub> setup (fd0)
grub> quit
when i boot i get into grub i don't know where to go.
how do i get the grub loader to look at the cdrom to boot from and where is the kernel located on the cdrom?
do i need to add anything to the boot floppy so the cdrom is recognized? |

OK, I thought that the link to Smart Boot Manager might let you boot from the CD-ROM and save you the trouble. _________________ For every higher wall, there is a taller ladder |

I'm trying to learn how to use grub. I'm not very familiar with it except the grub.conf but thanx anyway. |
