I am trying stage 1 installation and got universal liveCD.
In handbook, it is said we dont need package cd
Does that mean, portage file i will download for source file
will contain source files for all packages which i will have to compile(that
file is around 15mb)
Also, why portage snapshot of source files is not included
in liveCD iso (universal) ? |

yes it will download all packages to install from the internet unless you use packageCDs. On limited bandwidth connections like yours I'd suggest either to go to a place with faster connection during install, or go to place with a faster connection, download and burn packageCDs and then use them to install. If neither of those is a possibility it would be faster to do emerge --fetchonly system or whatever so you don't have to leave your internet connection on the whole time it's compiling/building packages. Hope that helps point you in the right direction. |
