|
|
I have a dual-boot WinXP / Gentoo system partitioned according to this guide.
I grossly underestimated the size I wanted the Linux partition to be and used ntfsresize to make my Windows filesystem smaller, then shrank the NTFS partition to the same size. But if I try to change the size of the Linux (or the WinXP extended) partition to fill the unused space, I get disk errors when I ty to boot.
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 2919 23446836 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2 13379 14593 9759487+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5 * 13379 13383 40131 83 Linux
/dev/hda6 13384 13446 506016 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda7 13447 14593 9213246 83 Linux
I've considered making a separate partition in the space and mounting it somehow, but having wiped more than my fair share of hard drives, wanted some advice first.
Thanks! |

Unless you are really confident in your ability to resize partitions manually, I would suggest using some sort of GUI tool to do it. There's a program called QTParted that's supposed to be pretty good. I know it's on the System Rescue CD, and I think it might be on Knoppix. _________________ Command-line ACCEPT_KEYWORDS is considered harmful, use the package.* files.

The one on the knoppix cd is a bit outdated I think. I would suggest the systemrescue cd |
