although it says i do not qualify i am using the instal guide from http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-quickinstall.xml
it seems that my emerge vixie-cron just will not work. i have sucessfully accomplished the steps up to code listing 1.8 with the exception of the emerge vixie-cron.
on a side note i skipped section 1.3 cause i am using stage3 and also skipped stage1.4 cause i don't have a time zone file nor do i know where to get one and where to download it to. and during my last attempt at this the /etc/fstab file looked correct for my computer.
the error messages that i get when i try to emerge vixie-cron are alot of

It's hard for me to see what your exact problem is, but I would REALLY recommend at least skiming through the Full Installation Manual, it would definately be worth it, if only to increase your understanding of what you are doing. My guess is that you missed a step in the installtion process that may be special in your case.
EDIT: are you using GRP with the stage3 install? |

have skimmed the full manuel and it doesn't appear that i missed anything.
GRP?
is there any way to have emerge go through the mirror list backwards? _________________ )*( Blessed Be )*( |

Hi Shadowwolf13,
Your error appears to be not finding the package on a mirror. Just in case your mirror settings are out of date, or all the mirrors you were trying were off line for maintenance, try this to reset your mirrors to an active set: Code: | # mirrorselect -a -s 5 |
Assuming that you have updated your portage (just run emerge sync) then you're good to go. In case something is wrong with the latter you may want to check the Online Package Database and search for the package name you want to donwload. Check the latest stable version for your machine's architecture, e.g. x86 and see that the release in question has + under it for stable, as opposed to ~ for unstable, and that this is the one that "emerge package_name" fetches for you from the mirrors.
Good luck. _________________ Regards,

On an ADSL connection it is of course silent - don't know how it will behave on a dial-up. I assume that this a modem configuration issue (search for a --silent option?). _________________ Regards,
