Yesterday I went to a website with flash content and the automatic plugin installer was able to find 8O and install 8O Flash 7.0. However, It seems to be not working.

So I did
Code:
# echo "net-www/netscape-flash ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# emerge netscape-flash -p

These are the packages that I would merge, in order:

Calculating dependencies   ...done!
[ebuild   N   ] net-www/netscape-flash-7.0.25

I've merged it, but firefox still tells me I need the flash pluging.

has anyone get it to work successfully?

Thanks

Unfortunately, Macromedia hasn't released a 64-bit Flash plugin yet, and the amd64 architecture is such that it's impossible to have a 64-bit executable load a 32-bit plugin (or vice versa). So, you'll need a 32-bit firefox. You can just unmerge mozilla-firefox and emerge mozilla-firefox-bin. The only problem with this is, it will be difficult to get Java working on the 32-bit firefox (if you get it working, tell me!).

I went and emerged
Code:
/net-www/mozilla-firefox-bin

thinking it was the 32 version. Nay, nay. As you all may know it's the 64bit version. Where/how do I get the 32bit one? TIA, Bill

EDIT - while I'm at it, whatever populates the icons on yahoo's main page is missing in this firefox version.

Or you can just use konqueror -- 64-bit konqueror can load 32-bit mozilla plugins just fine ;-)

Thanks lavish. This is from the mozilla firefox 'help > about'
Code:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.7.5) Gecko/20041107 Firefox/1.0

which is why I thought it was the 64bit version. Though, now thinking about it, firefox is not supposed to compile under the 64bit...?
Anyone know what's missing for those yahoo icons?
TIA, Bill

No... net-www/mozilla-firefox compiles and works fine on amd64 (at 64bit)...
net-www/mozilla-firefox-bin is used on amd64 boxes ONLY for 32bit plug-ins like flash...

Oky? ;)

(No idea for icons)
