|
|
Using:
Private 2 computer network
Server: Fedora Core 2 on Pentium based machine.
Target: SGI Octane with MIPS R12000
Image: ip30-r10k+-20040514.img
Neumerous problems
After bootp(): root=/dev/ram0
Boot seems to start fine.
Get a message on SGI machine
IP30 Heart Attack, caught errors 0x0040!
Interupt #57
It continues with no apparent problem.
In network activity I get the error:
From SGI mach.: Error code, Code: Disk Full or allocation exceeded.
From here it seems to start trying to do a diskless boot by NFS connecting to a directory /mipsy/octane/root/. I have attempted to set things up to allow that but everything I read indicates that it should not be happeining anyway. Any help would be appreciated.

I realise this is a month later -- it seems none of the SGI gurus stepped up to the plate.
Does Octane actually support initrds? IIRC this is not the case, and therefore one needs to use root-over-NFS.
Also, in this README it says:
Code: | Note - ip30-r10k+-20040514.img.bz2
This image ONLY supports NFS Root. SCSI is reported
to not be functional right now, so it's not even enabled
in the kernel image. |
so in order for this to work... my guess is you'd need to unpack a root image onto the Fedora box (such as this one) and set up dhcpd so it tells the Octane where to find it.
Alternatively, there's a LiveCD that might work... but I'm not sure... the developers here and in #gentoo-mips (irc.freenode.net) can fill you in there.
Hope this helps _________________ Stuart Longland (a.k.a Redhatter, VK4MSL)

Thanks Stuart. It is indeed a month later. We eventually read the notes on the linux version we were trying to use and discovered how unlikely it was to work. So we have currently moved away from that plan to one using IRIX.
Thanks for your reply.
