(U)DMA problems

Introduction :
My hdd died a month ago and I've bought 120GB maxtor (with 8MB) cache. Sad part - Motherboard - is's some kind of cheep QDI about 5 years old!

At that time gentoo advanture begun! I've instaled 2004.1 and everythig works just great except that I cann't use dma?! hdparm -d1 /dev/hda gives:
/dev/hda:
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
Everything is ext3 except /boot that is ext2! And I've made extralarge /home partition (about 80GB) - could this be it
