I'm running Gentoo 2004.2 on a AMD 900Mhz, 384MB RAM @ 100Mhz, GF2MX400, 40GB HDD, .. etc with kernel 2.4.26-gentoo-r9.
Gentoo run's great and how it schould be .. but some time's the whole system block's .. I can't do a thing anymore. It doesn't hapen a lot, but when it happens the 'num lock' led on my keyboard goed out and 'caps lock' & 'scroll lock' starts to flikker (pink .. goed on and out .. I don't know the word in English). That is probably a message? I searched on google .. forum's .. but didn't find a thing about this.
Now, it mostaly happens when i close a program (glxgears, gftp, ..) or a game (UnrealTournament or Savage).
The reason why I'm posting this here is that I don't know where to begin to soulve this problem. I ran SuSE 8.0 and some older versions of Gentoo on this pc .. and I never had this problem. And since then .. nothing changed in my hardware (didn't replace anything).
I searched in some log's (like the xorg, fluxbox, .. log's) but didn't find a thing.
Hope someone can help me with this ..
Thanks in advanced!

Sounds like you might have a kernel panic.
Preventing one, if you have one, can be anything from a recompile of your kernel to fixing some cryptic configuration file. |

Aha .. good to know. How can I figure that out? And how can I find the reason of that kernel panic?
I searched in /var/log/genkernel.log for 'panic'
Code: | linkmark@linkmark swat $ grep -i panic /var/log/genkernel.log
Generate a panic event to all BMCs on a panic (CONFIG_IPMI_PANIC_EVENT) [N/y/?]
