|
|
I'm getting a very strange error when I restart my computer. I'm running the 2.6.9-r4 kernel. After it is selected in grub, usually it doesn't boot up 3 times in a row before finally working.
If the screen goes blank for second or 2 after grub, and goes to my chosen native resolution of the monitor (1024 x 768) then it boots up normally. If it doesn't the font usually remains very large and it gets stuck with the following:
I'm not sure if this is logged this early, but I could not see anything obvious in my /var/log files. So the only way I could show it was by taking an actual screenshot. I am very sorry for this inconvenience.

(yes I know that was a lame idea, eh it looks good on my background though lol)
Here is how my Graphics Support section of the Device Drivers in the Kernel is configured:
Code: |
[*] Support for frame buffer devices
[*] VGA 16-color graphics support
[*] VESA VGA graphics support
VESA driver type (vesafb-tng) --->
(1024x768@60) VESA default mode
[*] ATI Rage128 display support
Console display driver support --->
[*] Video mode selection support
[*] Framebuffer Console support
Logo configuration
[*] Bootup logo
[*] Standard 224-color Linux logo

Can someone please help me resolve this problem? I would appreciate it VERY much. I'm sorry once again for posting those screenshots instead of code, I'm not sure if that's against the rules, or an annoynce or something. |

try just vesafb, and give a vga mode in the kernel line in your grub.conf like 794 _________________ iain |

Well the old one would lock up once in a while, I just want to make sure this is stable and everything. The graphics card on this server is not impressive or popular, nor is some of the hardware because it's a xeon server board.
I'm not that experienced in Gentoo, so I just want to make sure all my hardware is configured properly and can be depended on if say rebooting it remotely. |
