Toshiba Satellite - 1800-100 - software modem don't work

The software modem (should be a Lucent Scorpio...) is the only thing I can't keep to work.
Windows test says:

the sound chip is an Ali 5451. Kernel 2.6.9.
I've tried with ltmodem and slmodem (the latest under ~x86) but none of them seems to work...
Anybody out there have solved the problem?
