Hi,

Gentoo newbie here. I'm setting up an Athlon64 2.6 box using a stage 1 installation.

All has gone well so far up to and including the kernel and modules comilation and installs. However, when I update the /etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6 file with the nic modules and run modules-update , the /etc/modules.conf file is not altered. modules-update takes a second or two but doesn't come back with any errors or progress messages.

There were no apparent make or install errors and I've done the install by the book. One thing I noticed is that the modules-update script refers to kernel 2.5 but there appears to be no reference to the 2.4 and 2.6 kernel autoload files.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

If you check out
Code:
# man modules.autoload

You will see that modules.autoload.d only is for picking modules to load at boot.
When you reboot do the modules load correctly?

Thanks, you're right - the modules are loaded at boot. It was just the documention was a little ambiguous to what the command did:

as this appears to be a desktop puter.. you could also put the nic support compiled in the kernel instead of a loadable module...
