Is condrums even a word? Is it condundrums? Hrmph, oh well.
I am trying to decide if a RAID setup is the best for my machine. I checked out TLDP and a couple of various gentoo and google searches, but I have found no information on software RAID and the 2.6 kernel. If someone can point out a document that describes 2.6 and RAID setup I would be appreciative. And if someone could even tell me if software RAID would work on my setup I would be very grateful. I used to think it wouldn't but a thing I read earlier today is making me wonder...
I have 3 IDE devices. A CDROM drive, an 80 gig HDD and a 40 gig HDD. The 40 and my CDROM share a single channel, with the CDROM as the slave on the channel. I don't have an PCI IDE card, and I don't really want one. Ditto for a RAID card. From what I have read, if I can use software RAID I would need to take the CDROM drive off of the channel shared by the 40 gig HDD. Is that correct?
Thank you in advance. _________________ Fred Clausen

you could do it if your up for a challenge. Especially since you have your drives on different channels. but if u do it u can only have a 40 gig root partaition and then u would have to make a nonraid 40gig partion. so all for all u would still have all your normal spacest bounced around a bit. |
