|
|
Hey folks, I am new here and have tried several times on occasion to install Gentoo. I don't want to give up and I really want to get the distro working. I was wondering if I can compile the base system on a working linux distro and then install the working system on the computer. For example, right now I run DamnSmall Linux. I want to compile everything up to the kernel and distcc on this install. Then I want to install the working base system on to the same computer, effectively wiping out the DamnSmall distro. I could use DamnSmall as a live CD and have a blank disk. The main thing I want though, is a working linux system to build Gentoo on, so I can navigate documentation easier than using links and so I don't have too much down time.
Confused?
Thanks in advance,

Well if you have enough space on your hd you could do it (need to make a separarte partition though. Or setup the base system in the swap partition to come. Better for your needs might be to boot of from knoppix and use that. It will give you a working kde environment from the cd. There is an alternative installation guide that explains the (minor) difference in using this method |

I've used the Damn Small liveCD many times to install a Gentoo system. It's very easy, there is documentation in the alternative installation guide, just follow the Knoppix instructions and you should be set. |
