The player (kplayer/kmplayer) plays the clips/movies (with codecs) perfectly for about a min or two then either go blank or blue until rebooted, the sound still works, just no picture. vlc player with videoI/O configured as X11 works with no problem however.
Anyone know how to fix this? Do I have to set mplayer/xine to use X11 VideoI/O? |

I have the same problem and I'm trying to fix it now. You don't have to reboot, simply restart X. I got this after I changed to x.org. I think it should have something to do with the xorg.conf file, but I still haven't found out how to solve it. _________________ Proprietary is theft. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, if he had a chance

same problem here. However I am using the ~x86 version of X.org so that's most likely why. _________________ Animula vagula blandula,

OK, some improvements here. I was using 2.6.7, changed to 2.6.9. Now I am safe unless I switch to a virtual console (ctrl+alt+F1). If I do that, mplayer will not show images anymore, unless I restart X.
xfree never gave me that, so I think xorg should have a less perfect relationship with the kernel. Maybe as they spend more time together their relationship will mature? _________________ Proprietary is theft. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, if he had a chance

I have a feeling that all we have to do is edit some setting in /etc/X11/xorg.conf and it should work. I doubt it doesn't relate well to the kernel since Xorg was born from the X11 project. I just think that it's giving us these issues either cus we have xorg.conf configured badly or because we are not using the stable version (at least I'm not). Maybe I could try downgrading to stable and see if results are better...but I think I won't be able to have transparency and shadows that way..but it's ok, I barely ever use those things anyways. _________________ Animula vagula blandula,

I'm stable. I'm using xorg 6.8.0-r3. I don't think downgrading will make any difference, unless you go to an even more ancient version. Yes, maybe it's related to some new feature that has to be properly configured. Have you read the doc files yet? I haven't. Maybe it's the right place to start. _________________ Proprietary is theft. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, if he had a chance

Fixed it. Changed to 2.6.10, moved from vesafb to savagefb (my video board). It was still glitching, but unchecking console acceleration did the trick. Not only mplayer works, but switching to console and back is instantaneous now.
It was the kernel after alll _________________ Proprietary is theft. Pierre-Joseph Proudhon, if he had a chance
