I'm have Q-TEC WEBCAM 100 USB, but I can't get it to work. I can't find any drivers for Linux. Can someone explain what is needed for webcam in Linux? Need I "Video For Linux" in the kernel or only the USB support?

I think, that USB is working, but I'm not shure because the second thing that uses USB is my Canon i250, that dont work for me.

Gacha,

Please post your /proc/bus/usb/devices file. If you don't have one, post the output of lspci.

Can't anyone help my? Ok, if you can't help me with the camera, please help with Canon i250. I have driver, I have working USB and I have cups, but if I try to print any data the printer is not respoding to me, it doesn't do any action.

Has someone any advice?

Dear Mr. // Mrs. // Miss K*******,

there are enough people in the Linux community working on this now.
Just
wait for a newer Kernel release of your Linux Distribution.

We regret to inform you that Q-Tec Products are generally developed
for use
with Windows® operating systems only,
and therefore no kernel modules or installation instructions for the
Linux
// Unix operating system series are provided. Nor is in fact the use
of our
products with them is in any way supported.

But what you can keep in mind is that half a year after release of this
hardware, the Linux // Unix community on the internet already included
kernel modules ("drivers" in windows) into their latest kernels
possibly.

So visit the support page of your Distribution, regularly for updates
of the
Hardware Compatability Lists.

Kind regards,
M. Been

Gacha,

You can't use devfs and udev at the same time. You can however set up a bootime choice.

When you plug your web cam in, yo should get a device in /dev/4vl/ if your kernel support is complete. It will ve called video0 if its your first/only video device. It will appear in /proc/bus/usb/devices though.

The bad news is that neither google not grep can find the Vendor and Product IDs. That means that no driver will admit to knowing how to drive it.

How far throught the printer set uphttp://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/printing-howto.xml did you get ?

The
Code:
cat
test may well fail. Most printers are WinPrinters (like winmodems) and are unable to print an ASCII text stream. They need to be send a raster image - thats the pattern of dots to put on the paper. Continue with the install and try the CUPS test page.

About Q-TEC: Thank you very much for this replay. I will check out regulary for some updates. Maybe someday will appear an ebuild for Gentoo? :)

About Canon: Now my printer is working, with the same old driver. I found some topic in forum about canon i850 and there was good tutorial. The strangest thing is, that the driver must be in /usr/local... directory and also in your home dir. And there are some bash executable files who is needed to rename, because their filenames ends not with .so but with release file.so.1.22 and thats the problem vas 8)

PS. KTentity - I'm Mr. Gacha
