I've been trying to wrestle a stage 2 installation onto my system since saturday. I'm now trying a 2004.3 install on an amd64 platform.
mirrorselect -a -s4 -0 | grep 'GENTOO_MIRRORS=' \ >> /mnt/gentoo/etc/make.conf hasn't worked for me and it seems I get a mirror that is heavily loaded I'm seeing about 15kb/sec throughput today. This makes an emerge system fairly tedious.
Is there a way to specify a mirror, and if so is that kosher or should you just except whatever you get? |

Mirrorselect is just a tool to set mirrors. GENTOO_MIRRORS can be set manually.
I hope the typo you made wasn't in the real command... There's no \ in the real one. |
