Hi, I bought a cheapo 512MB MMC storage card for my camera which has some errors (to be expected maybe). Whenever either the camera or gnome try to access a certain part of the card they freeze.
As a temporary solution I found if I leave two pictures on my camera which encompass the corrupted part (effectively blocking the damged bit from being used) then everything works fine (but I must remember not to delete these pictures).
Obviously this is not an ideal solution. I remember from the bad old days with windows that when it checked a partition it could mark sectors as bad and not use them (If I remember correctly). As I'm presuming the card is a FAT filesystem, is it possible to do the same with my MMC card? I.e attach it to my computer with a card reader and run fsck or something on it which marks these bad sectors as unusable (in a similar way to me leaving pictures in those positions) |
