The printer is a Canon BJC-50, which works fine when I boot Windows 98. The printer has worked before with Red Hat, SuSE, Debian, etc.
I've read the printer how to. Parallel port support is compiled into the kernel, and indeed, I can send the printer output as above, and it prints it.
cups, cups-pdf, and fax4cups unmerge and emerge like yo-yos. No obvious problems are mentioned there.
So I can print, but not through cups. I can print to the network printer at work through cups over samba - so cups is working to that extent.
It just doesn't print on my lp0 printer port via cups, although sending directly to lp0 does work.
Any diagnostics to recommend?
Cheers,
