Hi,
I have been trying to install gentoo 2004.3 (Tried both minimal / universal).
If I boot with gentoo doscsi it hangs at scanning for tmscsim.
Any ideas?
I have already tried twiddling with the bios and adding all the other options from pressing F2 on boot (nodetect etc) to no avail.
Any ideas?
I'm gonna end up with core 3 soon if I cant get this working :(
Cheers,
Alan

I'm having the same trouble on a Dell PowerEdge 4300 with a PERC2/SC controller. I'm going to try an older cd. I'll report back.

Same problem here.

Gentoo LiveCDs this year: 0 for 4. Not one has booted to a prompt without serious fiddling. I've done at least 4:1 installs using Knoppix discs vs. the 2004.x discs.

Same problem here
IBM PC Server330 :? yak...

The devs could use more dev's & testers. How about having official front page announcements for people to test Gentoo LiveCDs b4 releases?

Seems to hang if you enter doscsi after gentoo-nofb or gentoo. If you don't need scsi, remove doscsi.

Try booting without using the doscsi option. I just found that the module I needed loaded for an HBA was loaded without the option being used and I know that the last time I installed (Livecd 1.4 I think) I had to use the option for it to load, so maybe some other changes have taken place on the livecds.

Then is a 2004.2 liveCD the best option for pch? I'm curious. Seems like the "remove doscsi" option is a bit of a potential showstopper for some folks.

So, now Gentoo can't run on SCSI systems, with no resolution in sight?

Jesus, I bought a NEW SCSI RAID adapter (ServeRAID 3L) because I was sick of distro developers botching MegaRAID support in every single distro (Fedora Core 3, Suse 9.1, Gentoo 2004.2 with the 2.6smp kernel). And now SCSI as a whole is broken.

Will installing via chroot from my Fedora Core 3 system work?

Given that the bug is still "Assigned", I guess it's safe to assume this did not make it into the maintenance release that went out the other day. Why?

PS - chrooting from Fedora did indeed work fine.

Hi, all,
I too was having a problem installing on SCSI systems. I got tired of installing from Knoppix when the Gentoo CD didn't work and it just didn't seem right. :?
I started picking apart the x86 minimal install CD and had some pretty good luck. :D
Please see this post: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=267325&highlight=doscsi for the details and how to get your hands on a CD that might work for you. It has already worked for two people.
Please report back your success and/or failures.

And don't forget to thank carpman for hosting the CD, without him, I wouldn't have been able to help anybody.

Thank you,
Jiffy

I tried using the modified iso with the doaic7xxx option without any luck. I had to install Red Hat first and then use that to bootstrap gentoo :(

pegu,
The latest version is scsi-r1. Get it at http://www.novickzone.com/gentoo/ .

Get that and boot it with gentoo doaic7xxx.

If that doesn't work,
boot it with gentoo doaic7xxx_old.

If that doesn't work,
Please post any error messages or info that you can.
Is your CDROM attached to an IDE controller?
Can you post the output of lsmod and dmesg?
I'll only need the parts that pertain to your SCSI controllers and CDROM.

Unfortunately I can't take the system down now. My CDROM was attached to the SCSI controller. This was the main problem since I could not load the SCSI drivers and therefore not perform the installation. As I said I installed Red Hat and bootstrapped Gentoo from there.
