I have been getting these following erros everytime I log into the shell of my system (linux-2.4.29-gentoo-r5). I have to login throught the shell because I don't know how to get KDM to display on its own.

This is what I see after entering ANY username.

This has been happening ever since I emerge the updates to world. At the time I didn't remember to umerge any of the old files. I am not certain of what to umerge at this time so I don't know what to do.

Please help this newbie out.

Did you try searching the forums? You've got lots of tasty search strings there, that should get you some very targeted results. I think I remember this problem from problems with a fresh G1.2 install. Have a look at /etc/login.defs.

First I want to say thanks to (rac and li1_getoo) for the ideas, but before checking back in here, I think I fixed it with what (emerge newbie) did in the string (rac) mention.

Before looking here I was trying to figure it out on my own and I ran etc-update and saw that there was an update for /etc/login.defs. I renamed the original /etc/login.defs.original as a backup and made the update. I logged out and logged back in and no erros appeared.

Thanks again guys.
