|
hi all,
first, i know that there are some threads about this topic.
i got a broken hd in my inspiron 5150 notebook, i got myself a new 3,5" hd which i put into my usb-hd case, i've booted my system with the sysresccd, mounted the usb-hd and copied the old hd to the new usb-hd using dd_rescue and it worked like a charm...8kb bad data out of 60gb, i've copied the partition table too. then i was able to mount the disk and access the files (i only tried to access a few).
now here's the question: is it likely to get my system back to the state it was before, when i get the internal hdd replaced by a new one and copy the usb-hd back to the internal one using the dd command?

|

[Probably bad advice]Try it out[/]
I don't have any experience with this, but I would imagine that it *could* turn up to be quite peachy if you copy everything over to a new disk... |

I imagine it would be just fine as long as your partitioning is the same and you re-install grub/lilo wen you're done. _________________ Gentoo makes me wanna shoop. |
