Ok. I wanna use LVM2 so I can dynamically increase capacity to the same mount point. and Raid 0 for performance, and reiser4 for dataloss free FS.
Right now I have a 200GB harddrive (FS: should be reiser 3.4) mounted under /home and it is pretty much full. I just bought an extra identical harddrive. I wanna do a RAID 0 on them with my PCI Raid controller.
I guess I dont know a safe way to incooperate all these 3 things together when I dont have an extra drive to backup all my data. Do which thing first?
I am thinking make the new drive a reiser4 drive, and copy all the data over. and reformat the old drive to reiser4. Then, do a Raid 0 with the raid utitlity that shows up at boot time. And mess with LVM2 afterward.
I pulled all those outta my butt, i have no idea if it will work at work or even make sense. _________________ I do what I want, and that's what I do.

I am currently using RAID0 and reiser 4 on my root partition. It works well. However, I am not sure If you can mix LVM an RAID0. I could be wrong though. RAID0 does offer really good performance though. _________________ Esteem : Essays, Fiction, and News Commentary. |

you would need to do a software raid afak as hardware cards format the disks, also most are just shifting the load to the cpu anyway, im sure you could create a lvm disk copy the data over format the original disk to extend the volume but i doubt you would see the benifits{1} of a stripe raid since all the data would still be on one disk
as for reiser4 i have a setup with it on one disk and it was so slow i couldnt listen to mp3s while compiling -j1 on a p4 xeon rig, it might be the love sources patches though
{1} if there are any, i think anantech did a peice saying in most cases it wasnt worth the risk to data _________________ Giay tay nam | Giay nam cao cap | Giay luoi |
