hey there

i emerged rox-filer before a minute.
my gentoo system is new set up.

so what app do i have to install (emerge? *smile*) to get rox-filer doing picture previews?

is there a quick show app for pictures, for when i doubleclick on a pic? great would be a app with "next" and "previous" button, so it is comfortable to look at multiple pictures which are in the same directory..

thanks very much
aaron

IIRC rox should be able to handle picture thumbnails out of the box - you just have to enable thumbnail browsing in the options somewhere.

And for the image viewer, you might want to emerge gthumb - it does exactly what you requested.

gqview and feh both work excellent. I did not have a picture viewing program, except konqueror which didn't work well for me.
This thread helped a lot. Thanks for the postings.

Pornview is also a good one for picture viewing (it also allows video viewing).

PS: Don't be fooled by the name

Now I have tested them all eccept Gthumb who needs a lot of Gnome stuff.

GQview rules. GTKSee is the only one who can show Gimp XCF files. No one is perfect. ;-)

I also use GQview and I find it very nice. I do not use feh though, because hsetroot is better for setting backdrops so I really have no reason for feh anymore. BTW, I highly recommend hsetroot, and there is an ebuild available on the website. I also wrote a python script which saves the settings to ~/.bgrc like feh does with ~/.fehbg and uses hsetroot to set the backdrop.

psetbg(aka the python script)
