|
|
Hi,
After my latest emerge world -D, I can no longer use firefox for my banking, as it seems java support is gone. Java is in my USE flags, JRE is installed:
blue ~ # emerge -p jre
These are the packages that I would merge, in order:
Calculating dependencies ...done!
[ebuild R ] dev-java/blackdown-jre-1.4.2
How can I debug this situation?

blue ~ # ls /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/
libnullplugin.so
It seems like Firefox realizes the plugin isn't present, but I don't know how to install it. I get directed to the Sun site, and I'm to download it manually. Emerge jre seems more gentoo to me, but that doesn't help...

This temporary fix worked for me.
# cd /usr/lib/nsbrowser/plugins/
# ln -s /opt/sun-jdk-1.4.2.06/jre/plugin/i386/ns610-gcc32/libjavaplugin_oji.so .
According to the following external forum post, this works only if you create the symbolic link, and not if you copy the shared library.

I don't pretend for a minute that this is consistent with Gentoo Java configuration. But it did get java working again in time for taking the laptop to the family reunion over the Thanksgiving weekend. |

Have you got 'mozilla' in your USE flags? You need to have it there if you want to have the java plugin installed for Mozilla browsers. _________________ [size=9]We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars. |
